2024 Mid-year Chapter Update
Welcome New Members

Welcome to all our new members!
Whether you responded to a post-card or by word of mouth, we are happy that you're here!
We feel our Chapter has much to offer Payroll Professionals in the way of education and networking and we hope you will soon agree. Come for the learning - but stay for the networking (and fun)!
We offer at least 8 meetings per year, each one eligible for at least 1 RCH including an annual all day event in August featuring multiple speakers on various topics. We also offer SHRM credit for all of our meetings. New this year - we offer a virtual option for most of our monthly meetings, and we hope those who can't attend in person due to schedule conflicts or distance will be able to join us via Zoom.
As part of your membership you will receive a discount to the monthly meetings as well as the annual MI Statewide conference.
And don't forget to check the Job Board in the Resources section of our website.
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have. We do offer a "member hotline" for any of those tough situations or questions you would like input or advice on. You can email us at [email protected].
Thanks again for joining and we look forward to meeting you soon!
President's Report
Hello everyone!
Can you believe we are already half way through 2024? It seems like just yesterday I was honored to become your new Chapter president.
I figured it might be a good time to give a quick update on Chapter Activities over the past few months and highlight some upcoming events.
We have been actively seeking new members for the Chapter. We sent out over 200 postcards to PayO members in our area, targeting those who may not be aware of our Chapter and what we have to offer. Please feel free to suggest our fine group to others in the industry that you know or that you come in contact with at various events.
During the 42nd annual Payroll Congress in Nashville, we won the 2024 Gavel Award for Facilitator and received honorable mention for Chapter Pictorial.
We are also busy planning our August Full Day event - celebrating National Payroll Week. We will feature at least 4 Speakers, offer breakfast and lunch, and lots of networking opportunities. We will once again be at St Johns Resort in Plymouth. You don't want to miss it! Registration is now open!!
And of course, make sure you attend the Annual Michigan Statewide Conference in October, at Firekeepers Casino and Resort in Battle Creek. Registration is now open! This event is always amazing and if you have never attended it or its been a while, you MUST attend this year. It's not often that one of our Michigan Statewide Leaders is also the President of PayrollOrg. Don't miss the ever funny PAYO President, Jim Bolek! Personally, I can't wait to attend. And make sure you stop by the Detroit Chapter booth.
Upcoming Events

Once again we will be having our August Full Day event. It will be held on Friday August 9th at St Johns Inn in Plymouth.
This is not only a GREAT learning opportunity, but the perfect chance to network with other Payroll Pros and get 4 RCHs, all while having FUN. We will also be celebrating National Payroll Week with that Just Got Paid feeling. This is one of our most loved and attended events all year. Registration is now OPEN!! REGISTER HERE!
Speakers will feature Lee Meadows, Sondra Proctor from MISDU, Cari Breitinger and more!
For our charity event, we would like to collect new, unopened toiletries, to be donated to Dress for Success, and we are also collecting gentle worn clothing items to donate to Purple Heart. They have a real need for men's and children's clothing so this is a great opportunity to go thru the closet and donate to a great cause. Please limit clothing donations to 1 bag/box.

Legislative Updates
The Board of Trustees of the Social Security Trust Fund reports each year on the financial condition of the social security program. The 2024 Annual Report of the Board of Trustees of the Federal Old-Age and Survivors Insurance and Federal Disability Insurance Trust Funds, issued on May 6, includes both short- and long-term projections about the social security system.
Using the “intermediate” projections, the board projects the social security wage base will be $174,900 in 2025 (up from $168,600 this year) and will increase to $242,700 by 2033. The formal announcement of the 2025 wage base will not come until mid-October.
The projections, which are only an indication of the expected trend, are based on social security program provisions in current law and do not take into account any changes in these provisions that might be made in the future.
Committees

Are you interested in volunteering?
If you are passionate about Payroll and would like to become more involved in the community we are always looking for members to help out. Whether you prefer a behind the scenes approach or would like to meet more members, we have opportunities to suit everyone.
You could:
- Help organize or even lead a CPP Study Group
- Help with National Payroll Week planning or participate in Money Matters Education Day
- Help us find new meeting places and/or speakers
- Help lead a Charity Campaign or Fundraiser
Of course, you have the Detroit Chapter Board to assist and work with you in any of these volunteer opportunities.
