Bulletin Board

The Detroit Chapter of PayrollOrg is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to providing educational, communication, and networking opportunities for payroll professionals in Detroit and Southeastern Michigan since 1985.

The Detroit Chapter posts payroll-related notices of meetings, educational events, and networking/benchmarking opportunities, supplied by the provider, as a service to the Michigan payroll community. To post on this bulletin board, email the event or opportunity information (as an MS Word document, HTML code or simply a text message) to [email protected].  The Detroit Chapter posts these notices as a service.  Posting does not imply endorsement or support of these notices.  There currently is no charge for this service.

Introducing Our New Web Address!

May. 8, 2025

Hi,

We're excited to announce that Detroit Chapter of PayrollOrg will soon have a new home on the web!

Beginning sometime on Friday May 9th, we will be live at PayODetroit.org.  You may experience a short delay in accessing our website on May 9th as StarChapter works to move our domain over to the new one.

We've been working hard to complete the rebrand from APA (formerly American Payroll Association) to the PayrollOrg brand and hope that this is our final step.  Visually, nothing is changing with our website.  Your log in and password will remain the same.

And although the old apadetroit website should redirect you to our new domain, please update any saved bookmarks or favorites after May 9th.

Check out the new site: www.PayoDetroit.org

Also, our new email will be [email protected]

We'd love to hear your thoughts!   Feel free to share any feedback you have about the new domain.
Thanks for your continued support!

Best regards,
The Detroit Chapter Board

CPP/FPC Study Group

Apr. 27, 2023

2023 CPP EXAM PREP SESSIONS

We are excited to announce our 2023 CPP Exam Preparation Study Group will be held Wednesday evenings between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm, beginning June 14th and running through August 23rd (10 weeks with 1 week off on July 5th due to the holiday).  These sessions will offer a comprehensive review of U.S. payroll topics.  The format is an interactive presentation via Zoom on a different payroll topic each week and will feature homework, a quiz each week and 3 poll questions in order to confirm attendance.

If you plan to sit for the certification exam, download the CPP Candidate Examination Handbook at http://pages.americanpayroll.org/cpp-handbook-download-form and review the required educational and work experience prerequisites for the certification exam before registering for this class.  There are no eligibility requirements to enroll in this study group.

For individuals currently certified as a CPP or FPC, this class is expected to be approved by the American Payroll Association for up to 30 recertification credit hours (RCHs), depending on your attendance (3 RCH per session).  This is a great way to earn education hours toward your future recertification!

Cost of the Exam Preparation Class:

$300 for Chapter members

$315 for non-members (comes with a 6 month Chapter Membership)

Registration will open May 1.

Everyone who attends all 10 sessions will be recognized at our annual member appreciation dinner in December.

Sessions will also be available on a ala carte basis for those wishing to attend a session on a specific topic but do not want to attend all 10 sessions.

Cost for the ala carte sessions is:

$60 for members

$75 for non-members for the first ala carte session which will include a 6 month Chapter Membership (all remaining ala carte sessions would be at the member cost of $60 each)

Ala carte sessions will be available for registration 1 week prior to each session being held.  A list of sessions and dates will be posted in May.

Although not required, participants should have the 2023 edition of The Payroll Source textbook, available from the American Payroll Association at https://www.americanpayroll.org/compliance/books-products

CPP holders – Would you be interested in leading a session on a chapter/topic you have interest in?   Session leaders will receive 3 RCHs per session taught at no cost to them or they can opt to receive $50 discount on the entire 10 week cost.  What better way to reinforce your understanding of a topic than by teaching it to others!!   Please email [email protected] for more information!

APA Announcement - Evolving our brand to PayrollOrg

Mar. 16, 2023

Since the 1980s, the American Payroll Association’s educational, certification, and publication services have been frequently sought by companies outside of the United States. Globalization has been part of the fabric of the American Payroll Association (APA) since its inception, and we have executed this by educating and certifying payroll professionals around the globe.

In 2015, the APA founded the Global Payroll Management Institute (GPMI) to continue to service our customers and engagements globally, while also satisfying the growing needs of our multinational and international customers. Currently, GPMI has subscribers in 117 countries.

We are now taking the opportunity to evolve our brand to better represent our borderless global community of payroll leaders. The APA is happy to announce that on May 2, the APA and GPMI will combine to become PayrollOrg, with the tagline: The Leader in Payroll Education. Our new acronym will be PAYO.

We know this announcement seems like a big change, but rest assured, our commitment to exceeding our members, subscribers, and customers' expectations will remain the same, as will our dedication to providing exceptional service to payroll professionals around the world.

We are excited about our future and look forward to sharing more information with you in the coming weeks. Be sure to join us at Payroll Congress in Denver, Colorado, for the official celebration of PayrollOrg. For more information on this transition, please read our Frequently Asked Questions about this exciting change, which we refer to as a rebrand.

Rebranding FAQ

P.S. Stay tuned for more enhancements to your APA Member benefits, including a new online community, called The Payroll Community, which will bring together payroll professionals around the world for online networking, knowledge sharing, and engagement.

Congratulations to us!
